COMEDY CLUB

Crying? Laughing? Crying laughing!

The Republican Party has officially descended into a circus that resembles an insane asylum. This week’s amateur hour showcase, as GOPers try to select a House of Representatives speaker, provides ample evidence. And ringmaster Trump, edging closer to criminal indictment for planning and carrying out an attempted coup against the United States government, has lost control of the inmates.

Trump also edges closer to indictment for the unpainfully obvious stealing of top secret and other classified documents. Why Trump has not already been indicted by the Department of Justice is a headscratcher.

In fact, along with all the ridiculously unworthy investigations the new Republican majority in the House is planning, an investigation into why Merrick Garland has not already indicted Trump, for hijacking sensitive documents that belong to the government, would top the list of any legitimate House Judiciary Committee.

Meanwhile, it appears Fulton County’s district attorney, Fani Willis, is wrapping up her investigation into Trump’s unpainfully obvious commission of the crime of attempting to change the results of the presidential election vote count in Georgia. I predict DA Willis will indict Trump.

Send in the clowns

It is comical seeing the dysfunction and sheer ignorance, courtesy of the MAGA wing of the Republican Party, as we watch them fumble the routine job of agreeing on a House speaker.

Republican’s limited choices begin with a feeble wimp, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), whose drooling appeasement of crass MAGA House representatives makes the weakling fake Christian Mike Pence look like a strongman. McCarthy, who feigned indignation in the aftermath of the January 6 coup attempt, quickly retreated to slavish devotion of Trump. Kevin McCarthy is a spineless, pliable, stands-for-nothing shell of a man.

Then there’s molester-enabler Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), unqualified but nonetheless, on Tuesday, receiving votes for a speaker position he does not want. Jordan’s reluctance probably is because, sooner or later, HBO will broadcast the George Clooney-produced documentary about Jordan’s role in a large scandal at The Ohio State University.

Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach at OSU from 1987-1995 when a sports medicine doctor was molesting athletes. Several wrestlers informed Jordan of the abuse. Jordan turned his back and did nothing to stop the abuse. More recently, Jordan was credibly accused of trying to convince victims to recant their under-oath testimony. (That amounts to witness-tampering, a felony.)

Unlike disproven QAnon fantasy conspiracies that imagined a D.C. pedophile pizza shop, Jim Jordan sure looks like a creep who ostensibly covered up the molestation of college kids, at the hands of a real sexual predator.

Another MAGA dreaming of important roles is Queen Traitor, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). Greene famously said if she had planned the January 6 insurrection rioters would have been better armed and would have taken down the U.S. government. And Greene is somehow still a member of Congress? Imagine Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) making such an outlandish statement. Waters would have been quickly censored and removed from Congress.

Yet Greene, in a sign of mounting desperation, pipe dreams of becoming the chair of an important, prestigious committee or, gulp, ascending to Speaker of the House. Given her admitted traitorous instincts, it will be laughable when Greene takes the congressional oath to defend the United States.

If McCarthy’s bid fails, the popular speaker choice, among pundits, is Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.). The problem for Scalise is he once spoke at a white supremacist conference organized by former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke. Scalise claims he did not know what group he was speaking to. Sure, Steve.

Yesterday, a hilarious group of MAGAs nominated Black Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) for the speaker role. I know nothing about Donalds other than if some MAGA Republicans are behind him, he must come from the same Uncle Tom tree as Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Ben Carson, and Herschel Walker. With the likes of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO.) supporting him, Byron Donalds is another attempt by MAGAs to use a hapless Black man to attract Black voters.

Seeing is believing

MAGA constituents, some of whom read The Weekly Opine, blew off watching the January 6 Committee hearings because (repeating what Trump instructed them to say) the hearings were an unfair “witch hunt.”

Anybody who did watch the hearings knows that most of the witnesses were Republicans who happen to know right from wrong, especially when potential prison sentences await anyone who commits perjury. Not a witch hunt, the hearings proved beyond reasonable doubt that Trump and his inner circle belong in prison.

So, I wonder if MAGA sympathizers are watching as their creepy peeps make a spectacle of choosing the next House speaker? To borrow a weather phrase, what we are witnessing is a 100-year flood. Not since 1923 has it taken more than one round of voting to select a House speaker.

Watching this farce play out in real time is amusing. It is not a hoax. It is not fake. Democrats did not produce this madness. It is the manifestation of the accumulation of profound MAGA ignorance, coupled with disrespect for truth and facts.

What we’ve witnessed this week is the disastrous side effect resulting from election deniers and QAnon conspiracists and Fox Lies viewers handing over their minds and souls, along with their sobriety and dignity, to the likes of Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene. And it’s boiling over for the world to see.

It will be fun watching MAGAs and their sympathizers soak in the remnants of self-inflicted undoing. Already, Greene is deeply at odds with her former pals Gaetz and Boebert. Is there anything more pathetic (and fun to watch) than evil liars turning on each other during the implosion?

It will be entertaining to see how MAGA constituents attempt to untangle themselves from this mess. Many will put away their MAGA hats. Others will unsubscribe from dimwit social media sites they mindlessly click on to hear MAGA lies (while getting suckered into sending Trump money).

To be clear, the GOP problem extends far beyond MAGA politicians. It includes ignorant fool constituents, such as the numbskulls who voted for Herschel Walker to be a United States senator. It is jaw-dropping that anyone in their right mind would consciously support Walker. Same with George Santos. The stupidity of MAGA constituents is stunningly infinite.

We should not allow greedy, crazy and/or racist MAGA constituents – who now want to become “normal” again – to pretend they were never part of Trump’s MAGA mess. They most definitely were “all in.”
