NO, BROTHERS AND SISTERS!
Crazy Blacks with Trump
While twiddling my thumbs waiting for the jury to return with a verdict in Trump’s election interference trial, I read about President Biden’s trip to Pennsylvania. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris travelled to the battleground Keystone State to, among other objectives, shore up support with Black voters.
Agonizingly, the Biden-Harris ticket has lost the endorsement of some Blacks. It is true that Blacks continue to lag other groups in areas like college degree attainment, home ownership and financial net worth. Blacks, like all Americans, have been hit by persistent inflation. And it is true Blacks lead when it comes to being subjected to unfair hiring practices, unfair housing practices and suffering from unwarranted physical aggression meted out by bad cops. Clearly, there is much work to do, to correct wrongs this country continues to struggle with – or flat out avoids correcting.
A surefire way for Blacks to remain behind – and fall further behind – would be to elect Trump and his fascist, racist, misogynistic brand of anti-democracy governing. A Black person who buys into the MAGA doctrine is, take your pick; a fool, ignorant, a dumbass. Any Black who supports Trump supports a return to the Jim Crow era of “Whites Only” bathrooms and the need for Black motorists to carry the Green Book when traveling.
(Look no further than the treatment of Utah’s women’s basketball team who, while staying at a hotel in Idaho during the recent NCAA Women’s tournament, were subjected to a racist attack. Confederate flag-carrying locals in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, showered the women with racial slurs and intimation. But of course, local government officials, despite audio evidence and witnesses who identified the main perpetrator, did nothing about it.)
Unfortunately, there are Black folks, some educated some uneducated, who share the same trait; stupidity. When Trump attempts to placate Blacks with spoonsful of lies about what he has done, or will do, for Black folks, sadly some of my Black brethren line up with both hands outstretched, suckered into believing Trump will take care of them.
I touched on this phenomenon of Blacks jockeying to get next to Trump years ago, in an entertaining column posted on January 18, 2018, just two months after launching The Weekly Opine. It is worth another read.
