If your head is spinning like a top, so is mine. Disruptions arrive with the regularity of the postwoman, the difference being disruptions happen on Sundays, too. Have we hit rock bottom? If so, can we grind our way out of the abyss like explorers in a Svengoolie thriller? Or are we mired in irreversible decline that ends with the U.S. joining the Roman Empire as examples of greed and hubris gone awry?

Or worse yet, could the planet be on course for a civilization ending dinosaur-like calamity. With three significant problems each capable of delivering a doomsday scenario – nuclear proliferation, climate change and the threat of pandemic viruses – the same species that walked on the moon needs to pave the way for data, science, and technology, fueled by competent, collaborative government leadership, to lead us out of multiple crises.
