On a two-week staycation…

Finally, it’s that time of year.

From the onset of my career in the early-1980s until it ended a few years ago, I always took vacation the two weeks leading up to Labor Day Weekend. And I stayed home. Why? Because, Chicago’s weather in late-August is fabulous, with highs near 80-degrees and low humidity. San Diego-like.

When I lived in the city during my staycation, in Lakeview and later in the West Loop/Fulton Market – a pioneer before the neighborhood exploded into the hippest ‘hood in the city - I would play tourist and hit museums, jazz and blues clubs, the lakefront and the ballpark. And get in a couple rounds of golf and maybe an afternoon sailing on Lake Michigan.

More recently, during my annual two weeks of late-summer bliss, now from the perspective of a card-carrying suburbanite, I sit on my porch or patio, read, sip wine, chat with neighbors and entertain friends. Venture into the city for jazz. Squeeze in a little golf and, if I have not done so already, sailing on Lake Michigan.

This year, during my break from opining, I am dialing it up a notch, undertaking a landscaping “renovation” project to freshen things up in the front and back of my house. Having been a member of my town’s garden group for five years, I am overdue to take the next step and hook-up my yard. Time to evolve the landscape appeal around my house from a B- to an A.

A few weeks ago, modern exterior light fixtures were installed. A nice first step that adds curb appeal. Next there will be tree removal, trimming, and flower planting. And finger-crossing that by next summer everything flourishes.

Of course, a huge variable is the weather. Lately, around here when it rains (or snows) it pours, which adversely affected a few trees this summer. Another big variable is my willingness to adhere to properly tending the redesign outcome. However, if this doesn’t succeed, I reserve the right to place the blame squarely on the landscape folks!

Meantime…

While I am away, soiling my hands and sipping vino, if you haven’t done so already, read the 9-page Mueller Report Executive Summary. And SHARE THE LINK on social media with family, friends and co-workers.

It only takes 30 minutes. And you’ll be better informed when Congress returns from vacation and finally begins to seriously weigh a decision regarding impeaching Racist Donald J. Trump.

Only nine pages. Takes just 30 minutes to read. No excuse not to read it. (Photo credit: The Weekly Opine)

Which could pave the way to unseat Moscow Mitch McConnell. And dethrone Lyin’ Lindsey Graham. And remove Unconstitutional Bill Barr. And get rid of Ignorant Ben Carson. This is high stakes stuff!
