D-DAY ELECTION

It’s winning time
There is no argument that June 6, 1944, stands as one of the most important dates in American and world history. D-Day was the date during World War II when the tide swung in favor of the Allies. Whatever fantasies Adolf Hitler had about world domination took a severe blow from which Nazi Germany did not recover.
Years from now, if American democracy still exists or, frankly, even if the U.S. succumbs to fascist authoritarian ideology, November 3, 2026, will take its place among the most important dates in American and world history. In our current dilemma, instead of soldiers on a battlefield far away across the Atlantic Ocean, the outcome rests with American citizens here at home. (And remember: no matter how many millions Elon Musk spends trying to help fascist Republicans, inside the voting booth Musk has the same as what you have; a single vote.)
Handwringers need not apply
Just this week we were served another example of why – despite polling suggesting a blue wave is imminent – my confidence about the election carries with it an uneasiness. Not because Musk is throwing $276 million into influencing the election. And not because the 77 million idiots who voted for Trump are still out there. My just-beneath-the-surface concern is attributed to witnessing some of the “good” guys who still adhere to “when they go low, we go high.” Can they be counted on in this fight?
The names of companies that cut down over 400 trees at a landmark Washington, D.C. golf course are easily identifiable. Why not hold them to account for ignoring a federal judge’s order not to cut down the trees? (Photos credit: The Mirror U.S., WJLA)
On Monday, a federal judge named Ana Reyes erupted at Trump’s Department of Justice. This after the Interior Department flagrantly disobeyed her ruling that required the Interior Department to inform the court prior to cutting down trees around the historic East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C.
Displaying supreme naivety, Judge Reyes admitted to giving Trump officials the benefit of doubt (going high). Judge Reyes went so far as to say she trusted DOJ (more going high). OMG, when will people learn? You do not ever place your trust in Trump administration officials. You do not give corrupt people, who support a 34x felon, rapist, pedophile, the benefit of doubt.
Judge Reyes saying she made the mistake of trusting Trump reminded me of another glaring ‘sucker’ moment for the “go high” crowd. You’ll recall this summer Trump posted on social media racist A.I. images of the Obamas as apes (going low). After Trump ridiculed the new Obama Presidential Center, calling it a “disaster” (more going low), Obama Center Executive Director Valerie Jarrett stunningly offered Trump a private tour (going high). The Obamas will likely not make a more cringe-worthy decision than pandering to Trump.
Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries have been slow on the draw, too, as they parse words and act with traditional congressional decorum (going high), when what constituents demand is ferociousness, e.g., turning over tables and pounding fists on lecterns and calling a pedophile a pedophile.
If voters rid Washington, D.C., of treasonous Republicans, the World War II Memorial should be joined by a Voters Memorial commemorating November 3, 2026. (Photo credit: The Weekly Opine)
Bring it
Still, anticipation builds. We have an opportunity – an unavoidable challenge – to partake in something akin to what was done on American soil during the Revolutionary War and Civil War. We can define the future. Not as soldiers bearing arms but as citizens bearing the right to vote.
There is only one choice and it’s obvious. You do not need to memorize names or policy positions. It doesn’t matter if your state, county or town is red, purple or blue. This could not be more basic. Republican candidates – all of them – stand for authoritarianism, fascism, corruption, greed and criminality, all at your expense.
Republicans encourage Trump, or are silent, when he pleads for the Nobel Peace Prize and begs to be added to Mount Rushmore. They chuckle obediently when he suggests he might run for a third term in 2028. Republican’s silence tells you they are just fine with the incapacitated Mitch McConnell pretending to fulfill his duties as United States senator.
Republican indifference shows us they accept the lie that China – not American consumers – pay Trump’s tariffs. Their refusal to demand the release of the Epstein files tells us Republicans know Trump is a pedophile, and they are OK with a pedophile living in the White House, interacting with children during White House Easter egg hunt festivities. Truly sick, the Republicans are.
Think about it. Vote blue, unless you like losing your healthcare or paying more for gas and groceries or seeing people’s rights trampled on by fake Christian hoodlums posing as politicians. Call it the no name election. All you have to do is vote Democrat. No need to follow media endorsements or celebrity endorsements of specific candidates. Up and down the ballot, just vote blue. Now there’s a campaign slogan: “All you have to do is vote blue.”
Embrace the moment. And maybe someday there will be a Voters Monument in Washington, D.C., honoring voters who saved American democracy on November, 3, 2026.
